A rare event:
On the way in this morning, after getting into 5th as we came away from Rochdale on the A627M, didn't have to change down until I was past Oldham. Yes, not even as I went through the roundabout at the junction with the M62. Still takes about an hour and ten from home to Jack's nursery, though, even when we don't have to stop for him to do a wee (which we haven't for a few days now, huzzah, in the mornings at least - we still generally have to stop at least once on the way home, but no actual accidents for ages now)

A fun gig:
Spotted that Artsworld had "Roy Orbison and Friends" last night. Only got to it about halfway through, but a nice gig all the same. In the band, along with what I assume was Roy's normal backing lineup, were Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, KDLang, Bonnie Raitt, and a few other people I probably ought to have recognised - Google tells me there were Jackson Browne, Jennifer Warnes, T Bone Burnett, James Burton, and more.

A dilemma:
This follows on from the above. Our free-all-of-Sky-for-a-month deal is over on Friday. The Hey-why-not-sign-up letter came last night. I'm actually tempted, despite the money going to Murdoch. But you know, we didn't watch all that much that wasn't on FreeSat anyway in that month, and which mixes would I need for the stuff we did like? It's cheap(ish) for the first year, but after that??? And is there some small print that says you have to stay past that first year, hidden away somewhere?

1. Somebody sent me a 1/2 page of A4 'survey', apparently with no cost or obligation they'll send me some (not very good) binoculars and samples of 6 wines. Hey, why not.

2. Sky, in a desperate bid to move us from FreeSat to a subscription, are giving us the Sky World package free for February. Excellent. BTW - Can anybody comment on Sky broadband? Is 40G/month enough? We don't download much at all, but how much bandwidth does Skype burn?

1. Monday, on leaving the Uni carpark, was in queue behind somebody who swiped their card, nothing happened, as they went to swipe it again I could see he/she had the mag stripe in the wrong side. Then they looked at the card, and then swiped it again - the wrong way round despite having just looked at it. At this point I changed lanes...

2. Tuesday. Decided to do my occasional run through the satellite channels to see what's new, what's gone, what's moved, what I can now get/not get on FreeSat that I coun't/could before, etc. When I got to 840, there was one of those mad phone in comps. And it looked easy but was worth 2500quid. So I got sucked in, but not to the point of phoning. Watched it for a bit, though, with people calling in with totally mad answers. The annoyance is that it was still unguessed when Shameless started, so I never found out what the answer was supposed to be. I reckon it was 201. Or 21. Or 366...  It's possible to enter over t'web. If that avoids the quid call charge I might try a few sometime.

but only for Barbie
Are we enjoying the RI Christmas Lectures, then?
There have been a couple of spots where I think he forgot something in his notes or has forgotten how little the uninterested already know, and he could do with starting fewer sentences with "Now", but not bad all told. Best for at least the last 3 years, for me.

"You're 15 miles from home. You have to be the world's worst agoraphobic"

Clearly, it was the comedy episode. Can the musical episode be far behind?

Fantastic program.
Wonder if there's owt on YouTube? Some of the numbers looked like they were being made into videos.
And, um: I cried.

Dammit, they keep moving it about...
I thought the LateNightPoker Masters on Saturday was repeat of the Monday one, but it was the last heat!
Guess I'll have to catch the repeat... Again!
Tsk.

Minor result for the forces of good yesterday on poker forum thehendonmob.com
In a discussion about the last episode of LateNightPokerMasters, somebody posted with a sig containing a statistic about % of prison population that are black vs % of general population that are black.
Soembody else picked up on this and asked him what he was trying to say with it. After a bit of multiway discussion the OP actually claimed "most blacks are criminal", and was instantly banned by the moderators (who work with a very light touch, normally)
Mentioned during the discussion was a TV programme I missed, called "100% white" (or something very like that). Apparently it was quite funny when they analysed the DNA of a couple of racists...

Introduced Jack to the Clangers yesterday. We've had the DVD for a while, but it won't play on our DVD player for some reason, and it wasn't until yesterday we tried it in the computer.
Jack was transfixed. He did all the facial expressions you only usually see in adverts. It was ace.
