Last night, we were late home as we went swimming after work, and Jack loves "In the night garden" so much we let him stay up to watch the tape. So he slept in until a quarter to 7! I went down with him but sadly L didn't get her lie-in as I couldn't find his new Bob the Builder DVD and he was going nuts for it.
But, with both of us up early, we got the shopping done at a reasonable hour, so had time not only to put together the 3rd raised bed at the top of the garden, but also to properly level it and partly fill it. And then in the afternoon, after Jack's nap, we got the extra compost to finish it off, which we did, and put a low fence round it to discourage the cats. These things hold a little over half a cubic metre. 500 litres. That's 3 big bags of compost, 2 big bags of peat, and 2 big bags of vermiculite. It takes several trips to the garden centre to shift it, and our back lane is an unadopted road and badly potholed - grounded the front valance once. But negotiating that is better then trying to carry it up the equivalent of 3 floors.
Jack really wants a plastic sword from the toy section of the garden centre. One day. Right now I think he'd break something by accident if he had one. I guess he will anyway, whenever, but, well.
We got some bark chips to go between the beds, but haven't put it down yet. I want some pea gravel to fill between the raised bed and the terrace edge, too. But it's ready to plant.
Next winter I'll have a go at levelling up the first two beds.
Introduced Jack to Four Feather Falls, and consequently now only carrying 2 guns will do (they're actually the barriers from his carpark, he doesn't have any actual guns, apart from a tiny water pistol he gets to play with in the bath).
Then we had some excellent gluten-free sossies, which Jack tucked into, before watching Toy Story, after which he went to bed and we watched the 3rd XMen movie, which was in the laptop I'm currently doing a cleanup on.
Starting to feel a bit tired.
Got a lot of stuff to take to the tip tomorrow.
