Last night as we were leaving nursery, we spotted a chap with a ?2?yr old on a micro-skateboard.
He said he got it for a fiver from Claire's Accessories (a very pink shop which gives me The Fear) but that my child's mother would kill me if I dared put our kid on one. He's not met L.
It's like this one: http://www.jjbsports.com/skateboards/simpson-mini-skateboard/prod_112838.aspx
The deck is only 47cm (about 18.5"), and I'm not sure that's quite enough for Jack. I did some measuring, making him assume The Stance, last night, and I reckon a couple more inches are required. Anybody know if you can get skateboards with decks about 20"?
I might get myself a board. My mum gave me some dosh for my birthday and my initial idea of inline skates was greeted with derision from somebody I share a house with.

I reckon you should just get a regular board. I may have something in the garage at home that could be good for you. When junior started he used to kneel on it and push himself along. he didn't start standing until he was, ooh, 9 or 10.
You'll need pads though. Trust me on this.

I suspect a full size board would be just as good though, if not better. He could do the lying/sitting thing on it. But if I'm getting one for me he can use that. I'll only be getting something cheap anyway.
Pads, yes. A must. I have a thumb that tells me when bad weather's coming, thanks to a skateboard accident. I'll probably want them while I'm learning to ride my uni, too.
Of course, due to Vandals, the skatepark in Tod is being dismantled on H&S grounds.

Yeah. A board you can both use seems the way to go to start with. If he takes to it then get one for him too. Then you can do catemerans down the hill. My elbows bear the scars of many a teenage prang without pads.
And all the half pipes round here are designed for BMX and almost impossible to skate. :(

Perhaps most importantly, it has dragons on.

Toysr do pretty cheap standard boards, no-name parts but would do, probably. The JJB ones seem to be some kind of own-brand, if you FWSE "Karnage skateboard" only JJB comes up.
I might go for a very basic name-brand one for me, about 30 quid or something.

The uni should be OK, it's basically just a balancing act - with effectively a point contact between wheel and road, the slope should be /almost/ immaterial.
