Any neighbours with a dog you can borrow and take out for walks? Running up and down those hills should help to shift the weight in no time.

When it gets lighter in the evenings, just take Jack out for what Bro used to call a walk "round the blog". When you're walking him to and from school twice a day, that will help too.

I didn't realise you were trying to lose weight. I assumed you went swimming because you enjoyed it.

I have to say that I went swimming 2 or 3 times a week for a couple of years when we lived in Maidenhead, and I gradually worked up to swimming a mile, breaststroke, but I never found it lost me a single pound. Well, not in weight, anyway!

Well, I do enjoy it, but I'd hoped it might help me lose a bit of weight, in conjunction with being good about what I eat, as I currently am.

A pound a week is said to be healthy and sustainable. i don't think beating yourself up over not losing more burns many calories!

I'd be happy with lb/wk if I only had 20 to 30 lbs to lose, but I have 20-25kg to lose! I reckon it wouldn't be unhealthy to lose a kilo a week, at least for the first 8 weeks or so.

Ah, a variant on the No-S diet http://www.nosdiet.com/ - probably most sustainable in the long run but probably not going to work for rapid initial loss...

To lose 2lb/week you need a 7000 calorie deficit.

If you were stable before and can manage this sort of deficit just by cutting out the shit, you must have been eating some shit! That's 30 mars bars, that is.

I'm expending a 1000 or so calories I never used to as well. And only losing a pound, apparently. The first week was probably a fluke.

Ah well, the coke business can be erratic. Any schools near you?

I was always a Pepsi man, as it goes. But these days I'm into Fanta.
