I'm sure I saw a controlled, randomised, study that showed that "knowing something" about horses didn't actually help, in the slightest.

I don't find it surprising, given than automated, pattern-based, trading systems outperform he supposed "experts" in share trading. Both randomi systems, innit.

I'm not surprised myself, but I'd still like to see the actual paper.
Almost all the people who actually make money out of horseracing (apart from bookies etc) either spot some angle, like the guy who made loads out of photo finishes by closing one eye and keeping his head still, or are rather good at hedging/arbitrage.
