OS8.6: Why would Word suddenly start losing its menus?
June edition of Sophos finds nowt, but I didn't really think it was a virus anyway - you have to do a scan to keep the customers happy.

Because Word is evil.

Because Word shags your system. Word and IE between them have been responsible for about 95% of the crashes on my iMac. Word started randomly turning the help-bubbles back on for me as well, the bastard.

Sounds like it happens on OS9 as well... in fact googling for "disappearing menus", "losing menus" etc. seems to find a fair few questions along the same lines ... and precious few answers. :-/

Sorry I can't be more help.

Can you run word from a command line in MacOS?.. if so, a /a switch (IIRC) should restore the defaults..

Dunno. I'll mention this possibility to our Mac lad.
