2 watery items.
1. I fixed up the water butt on Sunday, so I expected dry weather to persist for some time. But we woke on Monday to rain! Sticking my head out the window I could see that I'd installed the butt with its tap open, so all the overnight rain was lost. There was, however, a brief storm of very heavy rainfall as we drove to work. On gettin ghome, we looked in the butt to find it almost half full already! About 90 litres, from one decent bit of rain, thanks to the fact our downpipe serves both our roof and next door's. Huzzah! etc
2. The washing machine isn't supposed to stop partway through the cycle. When you give it some help, but at the point it should have done a rinse and spin it's still full of sudsy water, you know you have a problem. So we left it off at the end-of-cycle position and went to bed. This morning I opened it up - several litres hit the floor - and got all the clothes out, then scooped out as much of the remaining water as I could. And opened the filter - probably only another litre...
There was a shard of wood in there. Removed it with my trusty Leatherman, put one item back in to give the drum something to work on during the test, and it rinsed and span it fine. Cautious huzzahs. Put the rest of the stuff back in for a rinse and spin and it had nearly finished when we left. So I think it's fixed. That wood was keeping the drain valve locked closed. Apparently. I hope.
