Picking up Jack from nursery last night, was on a single yellow for just about dead on 10 minutes, got a ticket. We actually got to the car just as they'd finished writing it and putting it in its little bag, but before they'd stuck it on the car. They said 5 minutes grace was all they allow. It's crazy, not even a courier could collect/deliver a package in that time, with paperwork etc.

How unlucky!

How much is that going to cost? Couldn't you appeal for clemency?

John has a card to hang from the sunshield onto the windscreen sayin "A** Couriers. Making a Delivery" which has worked so far, but then, he does have a van.

30 quid.
The regs for loading/unloading specifically mention commercial vehicles.
It may be worth writing to the query/contest address asking for it to be cancelled on the grounds that (a) the 5 minutes grace is not fixed by any legisaltion and totally impractical, so that they're clearly cynically going after a "soft target" at the nursery, and (b) it ought to count as loading.

Find out if other parents have been targeted and get up a petition with the local councillor.

It prolly won't work, but it would cause them a bit of inconvenience specially if the press get involved.
