Tsk

It's all very well her wanting her dinner on the table when she gets home, but it all falls apart if she rings after I've started cooking to say she's missed the train and will be half an hour late...

I find that dinner *on the table* is a bit much to take as soon as I'm home. What happened to slippers/fireplace/pipe/sherry/newspaper for half an hour or so? Far more civilized.

A properly trained cook can make a meal that will be perfect when served at any time. Part of the skill is being able to anticipate any delays or be able to bring the meal forward at the drop of a chef's hat.

This is where pasta salad, stews, casseroles, curries, etc. come in handy. Or a Rayburn/Arga.

welcome to my life.

At least she phoned..

[identity profile] oldbloke.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I still managed to time it wrong so she had to wait 20 minutes. It's more The Boy that one worries about at times like these, of course.

Oh shut up.
I've never been properly trained for anything

The Boy can always chew on a bit of raw carrot until his tea's ready.

Would you like to tell him that, when he knows there are BISCUITS in the cupboard?

[identity profile] hoiho.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's just me, but I would hate to have dinner on the table when I got home. I need about 30-45 minutes to de-stress.

[identity profile] hoiho.livejournal.com 2008-09-11 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
You are so right. But a martini rather than sherry, I feel.

Biscuits are for *after* he's eaten all his tea, not before. You need to perfect your *STARE* so that he gets the message.

It's an archetype!

... or a cliche

You mean you made it up! I knew it!

[identity profile] nevilley.livejournal.com 2008-09-12 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
I don't see the problem. Dinner _is_ on the table. It just happens to be cold.
