Integrating into village life
At great risk to my weight loss program, I went to the pub last night.
I sat and listened to the AGM of the Hollins Crown Green Bowls Club, and since the landlord assured them that his brewery were paying the green rental for the coming year and so the club's future was assured (for one more year at least), I joined.
15 quid. Also I'll have to register with the North Lancashire & Fylde County Bowling Association to be able to play at all anywhere that isn't a public park, so another 6 quid there. Interesting that Todmorden are in the NL&F when it's actually part of West Yorkshire, but it hasn't always been - we still have a Rochdale STD code and an Oldham postcode, leading many websites to stick us in Lancashire automatically.
The green won't open until the end of March, so I have a little time to check if I need to (I think I do) and then to obtain some suitable flat-soled shoes and regulation trousers (black or grey, no studs no rivets no zipped pockets no external pockets)
Apparently there was an occasion last season when one of the teams had to play with only 7 men, so it looks like I might actually end up in a real match at some point: I'd stupidly ticked the boxes saying I might be available for the Todmorden League and the Hebden League matches.
Green fees, match fees...
I must be mad.
