So, PokerRoom sold me to bwin. There was a transfer bonus of $75 to sweeten it a bit.
bwin's software sucks. There's a java version that runs from your browser, but part of whatever's wrong with this machine is connected in some way to Java so I'd really rather not... A mate of mine has a Mac so needs Java interfaces, but his Mac won't run the version of Java bwin needs... The downloaded standalone client fails to get through its connect-checkforupdates-login sequence about half the time, bit annoying, but maybe that's mixed up with whatever's wrong with this machine too. Though none of the other poker clients I run have any trouble.
bwin's software sucks. How many times have I told it I want to keep folded cards visible? Does it do that? No. Can you choose your icon? No.
The transfer bonus... has to be cleared by the end of May, and it has to be cleared in one lump, all or nothing.
I'm painfully aware of my lack of skill and so I like to play microstakes - my preferred game is 10c/20c fixed limit hold'em. To clear this bonus I need 600 points, and you get 1 for every 10c rake. With no-flop-no-drop and a rake rate of 4%, games don't get raked 10c until the pot's up to $2.50. A bit rare at .10/.20
I tried a bit of .15/.30 and it wasn't much better. Tonight I played an hour of .10/.10 PLO8 and made $3.50 and 7 points. At that rate I need to play about 2.5 hours a day to meet the time limit. Or try higher stakes, where I may well get nervous and stop winning.
And the Welcome Series tourneys they've given me 7 tickets for... All start at 7pm on a Monday. So on half of those I'll be sitting out while I put Jack to bed... Though frankly I often do as well not playing as I do playing, in big freerolls.
I think, at the end of May, whether the bonus is cleared or not, I shall withdraw my 85 quid, or whatever's left of it (hopefully it'll have grown), unless their software improves a bit and/or I find some very soft games there.
