A woman came to pick up our old child car seat, a Freecycle deal.
Jack came down to the door with me.
But a bit later, as they were just leaving, he went back up, and opened the living room door.
And Smogg shot down, out, and into a bush between next door and the house round the corner.
I grabbed my shoes and went over but as soon as I got near he went through a cat-sized gap into the front garden of the house round the corner.
Jack was getting his shoes and coat, I went and got Smogg's food bowl.
He wouldn't come for it, and was nowhere to be seen.
We had a nosy in the back gardens of the two houses round the corner, nothing.
Wandered up the back lane, nothing.
Jack was starting to get distraught.
Next door weren't in and their gate was padlocked so couldn't check in there.
Not in the bush he went to first.
Not been to his food while we'd been off searching.
Rang a few bells and asked them to keep a lookout.
Useless searching in the dark so went in.
Jack went to the loo and I went into our back garden, and there he was.
Tried to do a runner again but I was just able to grab him.
Phew.
