Just tried that Paddy Power Fast Food Freeroll again.
No longer sure you want to slowplay from the off - you need to accumulate some chips to survive a couple of all-ins on the blinds later if you don't hit some hands, so you need to see a few cards early on. It's not long - maybe 15 minutes - until the field is roughly halved, though, which is probably about the time to start slowplaying.
The two notable things about today's were:
(1) People who registered but never bothered turning up. I saw a couple who, by pure luck, still had half-decent chipstacks when we were only a couple of hands off the bubble. So even if you can't be there, maybe it's worth registering; you might luck into a few cents. I'm reminded of a story of Victoria Coren's about how she did better in an online tournament when her machine crashed than she normally does.
(2) Something went wrong at Paddy Power and the tourney was abandoned before the end. I was about to be forced all-in on my big blind anyway, and having already survived that a couple of times I wasn't expecting my luck to hold, so I didn't mind. But looking at the T&Cs, I may get something like 50cents - I was 17th in chips at the time (over half the field had been eliminated, so half the prize pool gets split evenly between everybody left, and the other half as per the normal payout ratios & places). Or they may say that as it was a freeroll anyhow, nobody gets nuffink.
