Back at the end(ish) of July, I posted about how PokerPlayer mag offered me a year for 7 quid if I renewed my subscription with a special code, but when I went to the site I ended up with a year for 5 quid without any code at all.

That's 41.666p per issue. I actually looked at the cover of the latest one last night.
2.25.
Considerably different!
And they give away copies in casinos, apparently.
One suspects almost all their income actually comes from the ads, and the cover price is just a made-up number.

Ditto Flush, with it's cover price of 2.50, which I'm currently getting free, having (as mentioned recently) signed up for a 3-free deal and now being on #5...

If only Autosport had a similar deal going...
Next year when they ring up with some amazing subs offer I'll tell them to take a hike, as they always manage to stuff it up somehow. And if you renew that way you don't get the offers they put in the mag - a book, or a model car, or a branded T, or somesuch. The price of those offers is very close to the phone renewal anyway.

We had fish&chips last night.
Well, I had F&C, L & The Lad just had chips, since the batter on the fish isn't gluten-free.

This was because we couldn't resist joining in with one of the biggest events to hit Walsden this year - Tony at Grandma Pollard's was doing chips at 5p per portion (1957 prices) all day, to mark his 50 years of frying.

We got to the chippy at 18:10. The queue was out the door (not unusual) all the way back to the corner by the carpark (unusual).

Our order was taken at about 18:30, while we were still outside.

L had to take J home about 18:40, just after we'd got inside the door, to avoid an embarrasing toddler/poo/pants collision event.

I got served at 18:50.

But, the food was spot on.

The people behind us in the queue had come up from Littleborough - 3 miles away. It's the chippy they always use.
Used to be a bloke worked here who lived in Mytholmroyd but used that chippy - that's 7 to 8 miles, depending where in Mytholmroyd you start from.
It's a good chippy!

It was on Calendar, the 'local' bit at the end of the ITV news in our region. But we missed that.
