If as part of a computer proficency test, students are asked to fill in a web form, one item on which is "What course are you on?" with a list of possible answers in a dropbox with default entry "Select from list", should those who submit the form with their course set to "Select from list" automatically fail?

For extra points, should the person who wrote the php and didn't include a check that that field had been changed from that default be taken out at dawn and shot?
