... there's always a police investigation when there's a serious crash at some kind of motorsport event. So nothing should be read into the fact there's one for the Hammond incident. It's really just a check that proper procedures were followed so that there's no blame to be attached to organisers etc.

Top Gear's James May says he is convinced his fellow presenter Richard Hammond is "perfectly intact" after a conversation at his hospital bedside.
Mr May said it was not a long talk "but it was a conversation".
