Here comes the weekend...
French Grand Prix, with Ferrari now back in the hunt thanks to the debacle at Indianapolis.
In this week's Autosport (which, thanks to insomnia, I finished the same day it arrived for possibly the first time ever) Max made a fair case for his refusal to put in a chicane, but if you look at the history books they've done exactly that kind of thing before - and in fact the extra high kerbing that pitched Jenson into the wall at Canada just a week before was a sudden change to the track...
Somebody said fiasco starts with FIA. Somebody else said the real horror at Indianapolis was Mark Blundell's shirt: somewhat less than kind, but you can see his point.
The Tour de France gets going this weekend too, and thanks to our recent Freesat acquisition we'll be able to follow it on ITV2. Even if we had 'proper' Sky, we wouldn't be home for the live coverage, and there'd be too much, if we taped it, to fit into the rest of our busy busy lives. We've got a bet on Lance winning it again, but not a big bet, and at rubbish odds.
Until this morning I hadn't seen any roadkill for ages, but there was a cat at the end of the street today. Almost all the cats in our road are black&white, but both ours came lookig for breakfast, thankfully. And then there was a fox in the gutter on the way into work - quite young by the look of it.
Having added some "if there are 2 cells in this row|col|blk both of which must be one of 2 numbers then those numbers can't be anywhere else in this row|col|blk" code to my sudoku program, it got almost to the end of the one the previous version couldn't do, but failed to fill the last cell. So, I started to "tidy it up" - and it got worse. I think there's been a scoping error all the time, somewhere, but one that by some strange stroke of luck never showed as a bug until now. While trying to sort this out, I've found a } that doesn't seem to have a { to match, but if I take it out Perl complains bitterly. Very odd. If I didn't have to do my montly report and check the NAL/Zen object for Visual Studio for next semester's cluster image, I could get that sorted today, but as things stand it'll probably be next week. Maybe it's time for my standard Program Development Phase 2 approach - now I know what it needs to do, throw everything away and start again.
Oasis did a gig at the MCFC stadium last night. People started arriving very early. It took us 50 minutes to get from the nursery (by the BBC) to Asda (for petrol). Bastards.
Must get to the tip this weekend - running out of room for recyclables in the garage.
